When Is The Right Time To Ask For A Higher Dose Of Drugs Like Ultram?

When you use a narcotic like pain reliever such as Ultram, then typically you will use it once a day. The purpose is for you to get the relief you need for your pain problem so that it doesn’t become debilitating for you. What happens though when you use a drug like Ultram and the pain doesn’t get better the way it’s supposed to? What happens when the pain becomes worse or the pain relief doesn’t last as long as it’s supposed to?

Now in some situations a user might decide it’s a good idea to take more of the medication. This can go against doctor orders, but such a person will believe that they aren’t putting themselves at risk. In some situations they might even feel like the risk of potential side effects is worth it to get the pain relief they need.

Pain becoming worse is typically a symptom of a user doing something they might not be aware of in order to aggravate their condition. This could be certain movements, sleeping a certain way or even feeling stressed out. When this is the case steps can be taken in order to control such problems.

The best solution wouldn’t be to take more Ultram, but to speak to a pain management specialist about what steps you can take to control aggravating your condition (assuming you couldn’t get such help from your doctor). If you do feel like you need to use a higher dose of Ultram, then when would it truly be the right time to ask for this?

Well the first thing you need to understand is that any pain medication is going to come with the risk of tolerance after a certain period of usage. This is why doctors usually like to monitor patients while they are on it, requiring them to check in every so often to give them an update as to how it’s working for them.

Patients who have used such drugs in the past might develop a tolerance even faster and this can be a real problem. But asking a doctor to provide a higher dose without them feeling like you need a higher dose can be a problem. A doctor might not take kindly to you doing this and might see it as a warning sign you’re becoming addicted. In some cases they might inquire as to why you feel you need a higher dose.

This is where you would need to be prepared with specific reasons. For example if you said it’s because the dosage you use right now doesn’t seem to last as long, then maybe a doctor might recommend you experiment with taking it at certain times of the day. They might ask about activities you take part in, etc. Asking for a higher dose of a drug like Ultram is best only when you feel like it’s crucial to your ability to function day to day. Even this would be after other options or adjustments were considered.
