Description

Aricept is a form of treatment that targets the nerve cells within the brain. It is mainly composed of donepezil hydrochloride. Aricept is manufactured as a tablet and is presented in amounts of 5mg, 10mg, and 23mg.

How It Works

Acetylcholine is a chemical in the brain that is used to transmit messages between particular nerve cells. Acetylcholinesterase is the enzyme that acts on the acetylcholine, causing it to break down. As a result, there is a lower amount of acetylcholine in the system. Donepezil hydrochloride acts as an inhibitor to this specific enzyme. It prevents the acetylcholinesterase form performing its function. Acetylcholinesterase is then unable to break down the acetylcholine, ensuring that there is an increased level of the chemical.

Uses

Aricept is provided to individuals who are suffering from dementia as a result of being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Aricept is involved in maintaining memory, reasoning, and thinking in those who may be experiencing a reduction in these mental faculties. Aricept is not a cure and can only temporarily improve the circumstances for those with Alzheimer’s. The disease will progress over time. Aricept has proven to be quite adept at helping dementia in those with mild, moderate, and severe Alzheimer’s.

Dosage

Aricept is a prescription treatment. Prior to consuming Aricept, a doctor must first consider your particular symptoms and case. He or she will then decide which dosage is best for you. Once provided with the adequate amount, you should not reduce or increase this quantity without the express permission of a medical expert.

Those with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s should first take Aricept in 5mg doses. Once this treatment plan has continued for about four to six weeks, the amount can then be increased to 10mg. This should be taken once a day, in the evening before bedtime. Individuals with this condition should not be given more than 10mg each day.

For those who have been diagnosed as having moderate to severe Alzheimer’s, the starting amount is 5mg. After a period of about four to six weeks, this can change to 10mg a day. After three months, this can be increased to 23mg.

This should be the maximum amount taken each day.
